In the fall of 2016 the Ice Chalet was fortunate enough to be blessed by the presence of a family who fostered many children. Those children participated in our skating school group classes, and in our annual production of The Nutcracker On Ice. After seeing the effect that ice skating had on the lives of those children, discussions were started between Larry LaBorde and Mike Akard on how to offer such an opportunity to more children in foster care.
The idea to start Skate for Our Future was born, as a not-for-profit program to enhance and empower the lives of children in foster care through the sport of ice skating. The program will start with its initial group of participants in March of 2017, and will hopefully continue indefinitely. We look forward to our first group of participants partaking in the 2017 production of The Nutcracker On Ice in December of 2017.
